[su_quote cite=”Jerry Seinfeld”]Now they show you how detergents take out bloodstains, a pretty violent image there. I think if you’ve got a T-shirt with a bloodstain all over it, maybe laundry isn’t your biggest problem. Maybe you should get rid of the body before you do the wash.[/su_quote]
When do you do the wash? After you get rid of the body? Before? Any bodies involved? Hope not! Around our place, we do the wash on Fridays. Which makes Friday my favorite day of the week. Say whaa?? Yep, you read that correctly: my favorite day of the week is laundry day. Go figure.
Since six of us live in a 5th-wheel camper, we opted for more storage space rather than put a washer and dryer in the camper. Besides, my wife has discovered that she really doesn’t mind doing laundry at a laundromat. We’re usually done with a week’s worth of laundry in about three hours. She and I do the laundry together, and the kiddos clean the camper while we’re gone. So, Friday turns into a clean clothes and clean camper day. Win, win!
Now, while laundry can be a blast, I just discovered that there’s been an unknown competition happening, that’s not really my favorite part of the day. No, that’s reserved for what usually happens after the laundry is done: lunch. And this isn’t just any old lunch, no, sir. This is lunch with my favorite person in the whole wide world. This is lunch with my best friend. This is lunch with my soul mate. This is lunch with my Mrs. Babione. Lunch isn’t just lunch, it’s a lunch date with the only person in the universe I care to date: my wife.
The place or cuisine isn’t usually that big of a deal. Sometimes we eat at Taco Bell; other times we do the two for $20 at Chili’s. While that can be a treat, because let’s face it, good food is a treat, the real treat is just being out with Bridget without the kiddos. We get to reconnect a little. We get to relish not being in a small space with four other campers, no matter how much fun they are or how much we love them. This is our chance to get away for a short time and just be us.
After lunch, we usually have a few errands to run. A lot of times we’ll end up going grocery shopping. Sometimes we’ll go shopping for fabric or other decor items for the camper. Sometimes we’ll just go walk through Target. Every now and then, when we’ve been really good, we’ll go get some ice cream or something. Whatever we do, we enjoy being together.
When the laundry and the errands are all done, we return to our magical little camper where the fantastic four have spent all of 30 minutes cleaning and are now playing on their coveted video games. I’d say laundry day is their favorite day, too. Why? Well, we don’t do school on Friday, and they get to play their games and be on their computer earlier than any other day of the week. How cool is laundry day!
What’s your favorite day of the week? Is laundry a one day a week event, or is it spread out over a few days?
