Have you ever seen those little desk calendars that contain daily inspiration or motivation or entertaination? (Note: I made up that last word.) You know, for 365 days a year, you can flip the calendar over to the next quote, scripture, comic, picture, or other similar nugget, and then, when the year is done and dusted, you start the calendar over again? Well, I have. At least I know what I’m talking about.
My parents have a couple of these calendars. Whenever I’m back at their house, I’ll read through a few of the days. Some of the nuggets are great, and some of them aren’t so much. It’s kind of a mixed bag, really. Well, for the past two or three years, I’ve had the mind to write one of these calendars myself. And today, I begin this quest in earnest.
For the next year, if the Lord wills it, I will post a little nugget everyday. I will still post regular longer articles from time to time, but these will be daily shorter thoughts. In other words, I will post two different posts on some days. These shorter nuggets will be various quotes, scriptures, or other thoughts pertaining to seeing Christ in some way. Basically, I will take a quote from Gandalf, for example, and then briefly describe how I see Christ in it. Then, also Lord willing, by this time next year, I will be able to compile all these nuggets into a 365 day desk calendar of my own. I might even make it available to you. We’ll see about that one.
So, dear reader, if you dare to continue on this journey with me, I will present to you IC365. This will be the compilation of a year-long effort to see Christ in the world around me every day. The name has a double meaning, and quite by accident, I just saw them both as I was typing this. Originally, the IC stands for In Christ. So, it’s really In Christ 365. But the second meaning is a pun: IC (or I see) 365. I See 365 – I see Christ every day. Yep, there’s a glimpse into how my mind works.
However, I am not convinced I can do this on my own. Therefore, if you have any thoughts on seeing Christ in something, please let me know. And if you’re willing, I may use it. I am positive you’d be able to see Christ in ways that I don’t, so please don’t be bashful. I’m sure together, we can see Christ 365.
Now, without further ado, here’s today’s IC365:
Do not despise these small beginnings, for the Lord rejoices to see the work begin… – Zechariah 4:10 (NLT)
When we come into life in Christ, we are “born again”. Other terms are “born from above” or “born of the spirit”. Any way you slice it, we are born. I don’t remember much about my birth, but I’ve been told that I was small. Any newborn is. A full-grown adult doesn’t just walk out of the mother’s womb. So, we begin small. Everything must grow and develop. Same in our spiritual life. We are new or small in Christ, and He works in us to grow and develop His life. Do not despise the small or humble beginnings, for the Lord rejoices to see the work – His work – begin.
