Home/Blog/Abiding Life/The Promise

Several years ago, when I was still active on Twitter, I tweeted, “Ah, the Promise of a new day.” At the time, I wasn’t sure why I wanted to tweet that. I didn’t feel overly optimistic about the day or anything like that. The sun was shining after a night of storms. I had an appointment to run for my job. But, really, that was it. I didn’t have any fancy feelings about anything, really. In fact, I was going to say, “Ah, the promise of a new day.” However, as I was typing it in on my phone, a strange thought occurred to me. Capitalize “promise”. Hmm.

When I did, this indescribable desire to tweet made sense. You see, simply put, Jesus is the Promise of any new day. He is the Promise of anything and everything. He is the only thing that God promises. He is the only thing God has to promise. God wasn’t promising me a big contract out of my appointment; He wasn’t promising a beautiful day all day; He wasn’t promising me anything except Jesus.

Here’s the thing, at the end of the day, the bottom line is that Jesus is the ALL in all. He’s it. Every spiritual blessing is in Christ (Eph. 1:3). All of creation was created through Him, by Him, and for Him, and nothing was created without Him (John 1:3; Col. 1:16). God’s life is in Him (John 1:4). Anything and everything that God would ever possibly want to give us is in this Christ. (Col. 1: 15, 16, 19, among others).

“For the Son of God, Christ Jesus, who was preached among you by us…was not yes and no, but is yes in Him. 20 For as many as are the promises of God, in Him they are yes; therefore also through Him is our Amen to the glory of God through us.” – 2 Corinthians 1:19-20

“…in order that in Christ Jesus the blessing of Abraham might come to the Gentiles, so that we would receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.” – Galatians 3:14

So, it doesn’t matter what the day may bring. For those who are in Christ, our promise is sure, and that promise is Jesus Christ. May you find the Promise of a new day to be more fulfilling than you could ever hope for! For He is infinitely more glorious than any thing we could hope for. He is the all in all. He is the Christ. And He’s our Promise!
